THE FENDER TELECASTER
A R Duchossoir
(with Foreword by James Burton & Albert Lee)
The Fender Telecaster (formerly 'Esquire') is regarded as the first commercially successful solid body electric guitar.. Designed by Leo Fender at a time when the words 'rock& roll' were not even coined, the 'Tele' is the senior member of a family of instruments whose sounds and looks helped revolutionise the world of popular music.
In the early fifties, its innovative construction brought to the fore new concepts in professional guitar making. It also generated a lasting impact upon the music industry as well as a spate of immitators.
Today, its unique twangy sound remains unequalled whether for R&B slick comping or C&W chicken picking, not to mention other musical styles it can lend itself to. This book relates the story of Telecaster guitars since 1950. It includes serial numbers, specifications, wiring schematics,
prices, etc. - and lots of photos.
