|Ashbory Bass Guitar|
1985 saw the appearance of the first Ashbory Bass which was invented by Alun Ashworth-Jones and designed by Nigel Thornbory.
Following the initial prototype instruments which were handmade in England, manufacture and distribution were licensed to the Guild Guitar Company in the USA which produced approximately 1500 basses until the company was taken over by the Fender Musical Instrument Corporation. A few years later, Fender re-launched the Ashbory Bass, firstly under the DeArmond brand name, and later simply as "The Ashbory".
During all this time, sales had been mainly concentrated on the American market and the Ashbory was rarely available in the UK. but then Fender ceased production in July 2012 and now, at last, the Ashbory has finally come home!
We are now able to offer this instrument for sale in the UK where it started life twenty eight years ago. It is essentially the same as it has always been but with one important modification: The original silicone rubber strings, although delivering a great bass sound, had an inherent "sticky" feel which was not to every player's liking. This problem has now been overcome by stringing with the new "Thundergut" bass strings, developed in Italy by Aquila using their unique "Nylgut" material which has the same excellent sound quality but with a much smoother feel.
